I've started reading Pops, Terry Teachout's biography of Louis Armstrong. His first well-paying professional job was playing in a dance band that plied its trade on a steamboat on the Mississippi. This track by Jelly Roll Morton (one of the young Louis' influences) captures the ragged fun of those days.
