Useless Old Party

Michelle Malkin takes a scalpel to the moribund leadership of the California GOP.The Decrepit State of the California GOP

The state GOP is a basket case. The party establishment epitomizes everything that is wrong with the Republican Party nationally: Cronyism, arrogance, waste, and leadership out of touch with its base.

(snip)
Grass-roots activists have watched state GOP chairman Ron Nehring drive the party into the ground — and spend their money doing it. Nehring is a protege of openborders, credibility-undermining Grover Norquist. It was under Nehring’s watch that the California GOP hired Norquist’s friend, Michael Kamburowski, to serve as the California Republican Party’s chief operating officer in charge of the
multimillion-dollar budget of the nation’s largest state Republican Party — despite being here illegally with no work visa or valid work permit.

I'd forgotted about Kamburoski, who was clearly somebody's boyfriend.

Malkin has a long list of expenditures claimed by Nehring in his travels hither and yon to accomplish absolutely nothing. Malkin also notes that, not only was the state GOP slow in opposing the 6 budget propositions, it also gave $650K to the Governator's committee to pass Prop 1A. There's only one thing to say to that: Oh, for Pete's sake.

Actually, the real problem with Nehring's leadership is his name: I've never heard of him. State Dem Chair Art Torres, on the other hand, always makes sure he's in the newspaper, especially in stories about GOP candidates and issues. That might be because of Cruel Liberal Media Bias, but it's also a sign that Torres knows his job is to advocate for his side, as much as it is to raise funds and organize the grassroots. His replacement, John Burton, can be counted on to be equally aggressive in demanding and obtaining the spotlight.

Dem Chair = savvy local pol with a long history at all levels of CA politics

GOP Chair = outsider brought in by outsiders with absolutely no independent base of political support.

In the words of Al Gore: it is a Miser-able Fail-ure

This, by the way, is what real investigative reporting looks like. You can find out more from Malkin's one blog post (written in suburban DC) than you would from a year's worth of reporting from the local papers in SF, Sacramento, and LA. What's the use of liberal media bias if they can't even reprt this sort of unflattering GOP story?
